How Long To Boil Lobster Tails

OK, so maybe you really want to step it up and impress some people or that certain special someone. What better way than LOBSTER TAILS. The meal fit for a king or queen. But, you probably want to know how long to boil lobster tails. Well, you’re in luck, because I’m gonna go through it step by step. Surprisingly, it is pretty simple:

  1. First off, when you get your lobster tails, the color is pretty important. If they are gray, they need to be boiled. If they are red, they need to be steamed. I will explain how to steam in another post.
  2. There is a couple of ways to defrost them. You can do it the quicker way by sticking them in the microwave and defrosting for about 4 minutes per pound. Just make sure you check them periodically to make sure you don’t overdo it. Or, you can throw them in the fridge about 8 hours or so before cooking. If you don’t defrost them fully first, they won’t be as tender when it comes time to eat.
  3. Now grab yourself a large pot, and remember to add 1 teaspoon of salt for every quart of water you put in the pot. Bring the water to a boil, and drop the tails in the pot. Once the water reboils, you can start to do the figuring on how long the boil the lobster tails. General rule of thumb is to let it boil about 1 minute per ounce.
  4. Once they are done, remove with tongs and enjoy with some drawn butter.
